The entire cycle of a skin cell, from birth to shedding from the surface, takes about 28 days on average. This so-called “turnover cycle” of the skin is influenced by many factors, including age, hormones, psychological state, and the skin's environment.
This cycle also tends to lengthen as we get stressed and age, resulting in dull complexion, rough skin texture, fine lines, and other skin problems.
Continuing a healthy skincare routine with a planned process of stimulation and skin revitalization that includes regular old exfoliation, skin soothing, and moisturizing will promote the natural replacement of skin cells to maintain a beautiful, healthy skin cycle.
However, some of the stratum corneum must remain for the protection of the skin barrier, so a mild peel is needed to promote the skin turnover cycle without overly damaging the stratum corneum.
We recommend peels utilizing acids such as AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, LHAs, etc. with the appropriate concentration and pH level, and adjusting the intensity and frequency of peels to account for skin sensitivity and stratum corneum turnover cycle.
